How to remove the background from an image
- Upload your image. Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP file onto the page, choose one from your device, or paste it from your clipboard.
- Check the detected background colour. The tool samples the edges of the image to find the background. If it picked the wrong colour, click the original image to choose the right one.
- Adjust tolerance and edge softness. Raise the tolerance if background is left behind, lower it if parts of your subject disappear, and add softness for a smoother edge.
- Download the transparent PNG. Preview the cut-out on white, black or green, then save it.
Convert a JPG to a transparent PNG
JPG files cannot store transparency, which is why a logo or product photo saved as a JPG always has a solid box behind it. This background remover converts the image to a PNG and makes the background pixels transparent, so you can place the result on a website, a presentation, a printed design or an invoice without a white rectangle around it.
When this background remover works best
The tool removes a background by colour, so it gives the cleanest results on solid or near-solid backgrounds: white studio product shots, logos, signatures, screenshots and scanned stamps. It does not recognise people or objects, so photos with busy or multi-coloured backgrounds may need a higher tolerance or may not come out cleanly.
